Only one firm responded to a Fort Wayne city request for proposals for a piece of land purchased last year near the Martin Luther King Jr. bridge north of downtown.
Continental Property Group, the firm developing the $61.7 million mixed-use downtown riverfront development at the northeast corner of Harrison and Superior streets downtown, was the only respondent to the city’s proposals request, city spokesman John Perlich confirmed Monday. Indiana University Health was interested in the property, but did not submit a proposal by the Aug. 14 deadline.
Responding to a request for proposals is the first in a multi-step process that could eventually end in development of the former OmniSource site known as the North River property.
Others interested in developing the site were Biggs Group, one of the developers of the Electric Works site south of downtown and Great Lakes Capital, which is developing the Skyline Tower building on Harrison Street.
It’s unclear what is specifically contained in Continental Property Group’s proposal. Joe Dunaway, Continental Property Group’s development director, declined to comment Monday.
“The city has not contacted us with regard to what their plans are for the proposal and whether they feel it should be released to the public,” Dunaway said.
One aspect of Continental Property Group’s proposal that is known, however, is the inclusion of Headwaters Junction, which would house the No. 765 steam locomotive with a roundhouse and other attractions. Kelly Lynch, vice president of the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society, also said he could not comment on details of the proposal.
The city of Fort Wayne purchased the North River site from the Rifkin family for $4.63 million last year.
