Lead garage destroyed in fire
LEAD — A garage in Lead was destroyed in an over night fire.
At around 4 a.m. Lead Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call about the fire on Hearst Avenue.
Fire Chief Tim Eggers said the fire was confined to the detached structure with minor damage to the surrounding structures and no injuries were sustained.
“Driving by it, there (were) flames coming out of the roof,” he said. “We got there, and we got a good knock down on it. … It was a complete loss, that building.”
Eggers said it took around two hours to put out the blaze.
Lead VFD was joined by the Deadwood Fire Department and an ambulance form Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
