Diesel fuel leaking into Fourpole Creek from tank at CHH
HUNTINGTON - A diesel fuel leak was discovered in Fourpole Creek after an investigation following complaints about a smell emanating from the area.
According to Bryan Chambers, communications director for the city of Huntington, the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection and the Huntington Sanitary Board traced the source of the smell to a supply line to a diesel fuel tank leaking into a storm drain at Cabell Huntington Hospital on Tuesday evening.
Chambers said hospital personnel immediately isolated the tank.
According to DEP spokeswoman Brianna Hickman, the investigation has been ongoing since Saturday night. The DEP Emergency Response unit placed containment measures in the creek just before the Enslow Park bridge.
The DEP will continue to monitor the situation until the investigation is complete.
Cabell Huntington Hospital did not respond to a phone call seeking comment Wednesday.
