KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ Greg Van Soelen scored 25 of his 37 points in the first half Wednesday as unseeded Dordt, Iowa, built a big first-half lead en route to an 86-71 victory over 10th-seeded Mobile in the first round of the NAIA basketball tournament.
After Dordt took a 12-6 lead, Van Soelen scored the next 14 points for the Defenders, giving them a 26-14 lead with 9:45 left.
Dordt, making its first appearance in the tournament, built a 20-point lead late in the first half on a three-point play by Van Soelen. The Defenders, 24-4, led 46-29 at the half and never trailed the rest of the way.
Mobile College, which finished 31-3, was led by Kyle Richard with 16 points and Scott Davis with 10.
Kevin Veenstra scored 12 points, Kevin Gesink had 11 and Steve Ver Meer and Jerry Boer added 10 each for Dordt, which advances to the second round on Friday.
