Family of 6 escapes fire with minor injuries

January 4, 2019

A family of six is recovering after a fire ravaged their two-story home on Fort Wayne’s northwest side early Thursday, officials said.

Two adults and four children were taken to a hospital with minor injuries after crews began attacking the blaze at 2:16 a.m., the fire department said.

Heavy smoke and flames were visible from a second-floor window when firefighters arrived at the home at 1707 Fairhill Road, in the Hamilton Park neighborhood between Spring Street and State Boulevard.

The family made it out ahead of emergency responders, officials said.

It took crews 13 minutes to bring the blaze under control. The fire remains under investigation, the department said.
