May 28, 2019

A 24-year-old Sun Prairie man died Sunday night following a head-on collision with a vehicle driving the wrong way on Highway 151 in the town of Trenton.

Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt said the Sheriff’s Office received a report about the crash on 151 just north of Redwood Road at 10 p.m. There had been several reports about a vehicle traveling in the wrong lane.

The sheriff’s investigation shows a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of 151 and struck a southbound 2016 Nissan Altima head on. The 24-year-old Sun Prairie man, who was driving the Altima, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dodge County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The driver of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan, a 39-year-old Beaver Dam man, was flown from the scene by Flight for Life to Aurora Hospital in Summit with life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol use is believed to be contributing factors in the crash, Schmidt said. The accident remains under investigation.

Other agencies assisting at the scene include the Beaver Dam Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Flight for Life, Beaver Dam Fire and EMS, the Dodge County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Dodge County Emergency Response Team.
