‘Vampire’ Enters Plea in Murder
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ A man who claims he’s a 2,000-year-old vampire pleaded innocent to charges he murdered a homeless woman and slashed three other people.
Joshua Rudiger, 21, entered the plea Tuesday in San Francisco Municipal Court to 10 felony charges in connection with four knife attacks on homeless people.
Among his alleged victims is Shirley Dillahunty, 48, who died after her throat was slashed while she slept on a sidewalk Oct. 29. He also is charged with three counts of attempted murder and six counts of assault in three earlier attacks on homeless men in Chinatown.
Investigators said Rudiger, who has a history of mental problems, told them after the attacks that he is a vampire who survives by sucking the blood of his victims. He also claimed that he is 2,000 years old and has special psychic powers, police said.
He was ordered to return to court Feb. 5.
