Get ready for Election Day with voter-registration events
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — With election season heating up, people in Utah can register to vote at a series of events on National Voter Registration Day.
The Tuesday holiday will include events at Glendale and Columbus libraries and University of Utah in Salt Lake City, and there are other locations at the Utah State Hospital in Provo and Weber State University in Ogden.
Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski will also hold lunchtime voter-registration drives at local high schools. A new state law allows 16 and 17-year-olds to preregister to vote.
The deadline to voters to register to vote by mail is Oct. 9. Election Day is Nov. 6.
National Voter Registration Day was created in 2012, and this year volunteers and organizations all over the country will turn out in person and online to encourage people to register.
