NEEDLES — With trustees for Area 1 (Goffs, Essex) and Area 2 (Needles) still vacant the Needles Unified School District Board of Trustees opted for approving a provisional appointment to whoever wants to fill the vacancy.
“At this point in time the board has the responsibility to move forward with a provisional vote to fill the vacant seats,” said Mary McNeil, NUSD superintendent. “Tonight, the action needed on your part is to move forward with a provisional appointment so that we can put notices up on the website (https://www.needlesusd.org). We will follow the process that we’ve used in the past which is set a deadline, put out an application and then interview the candidates.”
After the nomination process closed for the Needles Unified School District only incumbents, John Paul Lusk and Laurie Fragoso had filed for candidacy to retain their seats representing Area 2.
“Because of the fact that there is no contest in the election for November,” said McNeil, “the district does not need to move forward with an election, which saves us quite a bit of money. So the district will not need to be on the ballet and after the polls close that day the two candidates will be winners of those seats.”
The NUSD Board of Trustees approved to opt for provisional appointment to fill the vacant seats of Area 1 and 2 during their meeting on Aug. 21.
