Southwestern Restaurant Group Acquired by San Diego Chain
PHOENIX (AP) _ Famous Restaurants Inc., a 35-unit chain that filed for bankruptcy protection last year, said it has been acquired from Heller Financial Inc. by the parent company of a Mexican restaurant chain.
Terms of the purchase by Pittsburgh-based Hillman Co., announced Tuesday, were not disclosed.
Hillman is the principal owner of Carlos Murphy’s, a 19 restaurant-chain headquartered in San Diego.
Famous Restaurants, which once operated 60 units, sought Chapter 11 court protection from creditors last September.
Chicago-based Heller Financial, the main creditor, took full ownership in June as settlement of an estimated $46 million it was owed.
Heller Financial is the senior lender for the new purchase.
