Thunderstorms cause damage in Tilden
Severe thunderstorms roared across parts of northeast Nebraska, with a particularly severe cell that passed over the community of Tilden Friday evening just as the community was kicking off its annual Prairie Days celebration.
Witnesses and social media reports indicate power was knocked out in much of the community, with downed power poles.
Major tree and roof damage was reported, and at least one building near downtown suffered extensive damage to the front of the structure, scattering bricks into the street. The building is located just to the east of the Tilden City Auditorium which is hosting a giant antiques show this weekend.
Other reports indicate a tower was blown off of a grain elevator.
A listener travelling west of Norfolk between Meadow Grove and Tilden reported seeing tree damage with debris on highway 275. Emergency crews were responding.
Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for parts of Pierce and Madison county just after 8pm. The storm moved across Madison county from the northwest to the southeast, prompting additional storm warnings for parts of Stanton, Colfax and Platte counties.
