Rolling Stone cover features Jahana Hayes
Highlighted as a woman “shaping the future,” U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes, D-Conn., was featured Wednesday on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine with fellow Democrats Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi of California, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Rep. Illhan Omar of Minnesota.
Rolling Stone shares Hayes’s journey “from teen mom to Teacher of the Year to House of Representatives.”

Hayes told Rolling Stone she would not vote today to impeach Trump. But when the former teacher was asked if he should be “suspended,” she said “Do not let this psycho steal your joy.”
“We are at an intersection in history, and 20 years from now, it’s going to be the millennials and the students and the women and the single moms and the outliers who came in and restored faith in government,” Hayes said. “It’s happening.”
The 45-year-old grew up in Waterbury public housing and was encouraged to run for office by U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), who also gave her political advice and directed donors to support her.
She won the Democratic primary in August and was elected to the 5th District seat formerly held by U.S. Rep Elizabeth Esty in November.
