River Valley keeps rolling

December 6, 2018

MOHAVE VALLEY — The River Valley High School wrestling team swept three section foes at the Parker multi on Wednesday evening.

River Valley beat Mayer 72-12, Wickenburg 66-18 and Parker 48-31.

Seth Solano put on a “great performance,” said Dust Devils head coach Zack Regan by text message. “But the big performer today was Francisco Walema.

“Our heavyweight’s first meet and he went undefeated and beat a very good heavyweight from Parker.

“Parker has a very good team this year and we have a lot more training to do still.”

Martin Graham, 113 pounds; John Skinner 120; Ryan Matteson 138; Solano, 170; and Walema went 3-0 for the Dust Devils.

By going 3-0 in the Arizona Interscholastic Association Division IV, Section III multi, the Dust Devils improved their record to 8-2 overall.

“It was all section opponents, so beating them all is good for our squad,” Regan said. “We have a lot of young wrestlers and they are mostly first-year wrestlers, so they are glad that with less experience they are still competing and it’s because of the competition in the weight room.”
