Police: man killed ex-girlfriend’s puppy

December 29, 2018

DURHAM - A local man was arrested after police said he beat his former girlfriend’s puppy to death and buried it in the backyard.

Clinton Stewart, 38, was charged with cruelty to animals, sale of narcotics and use of drug paraphernalia.

He was being held in lieu of $75,000 bond.

Police said on Dec. 12, Stewart’s former girlfriend reported her puppy, Maybelline, was missing. Two days later state police found the dog’s mangled body buried in Stewart’s backyard. Police said they found 30 marijuana plants in Stewart’s home.

“Sadly, we tragically lost Maybelline, she was found today by the state police,” the dog’s owner posted on social media. “I am distraught and cannot discuss details but want to thank everyone for their support and caring about our beautiful Maybelline I am more than heartbroken.”
