Man now charged with manslaughter in crash that killed 2
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — A man charged in a New Jersey crash earlier this year that claimed the lives of two people is now charged with aggravated manslaughter.
NJ.com reports that a grand jury added the counts to charges of death and assault by auto originally filed against 32-year-old Alex Torres of Union City.
Prosecutors in Hudson County allege that Torres was driving with a suspended license and under the influence during the early morning Feb. 11 crash in Jersey City.
Authorities said the crash killed 25-year-old Mario Guevara and 24-year-old Heather Acosta and injured Torres and two other people.
Torres was arraigned on the new charges Friday via video from the county jail; he pleaded not guilty to the original counts and his attorney didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment Sunday.
