Archbald Man Charged For Pointing Gun At Son’s Girlfriend, Following Another Woman

May 24, 2019

An Archbald man chased a woman he mistook for his son’s girlfriend through the Midvalley then pointed a gun at his child’s paramour once he found her, police said. William Santarelli, 68, 224 Ontario St., is charged with terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and stalking, according to two separate complaints filed by Blakely and Dickson City police. Shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday, Santarelli started to follow a woman, Carly Clifford, through Dickson City as she tried to drive to her Blakely home, according to police. Clifford noticed and tried making random turns but Santarelli continued to follow her. She called her father, Michael Clifford, who told her to come home. Michael Clifford was waiting there with a rake and confronted Santarelli, who realized it was a case of “mistaken identity.” Michael Clifford noticed Santarelli had a gun, police said. “I tried to reason with him,” Michael Clifford told police. “I told him to stay away from my daughter and my home.” Police learned Santarelli’s identity once Carly Clifford snapped a picture of his license plate and called police to report what had happened. Santarelli drove to Buffalo Wild Wings in Dickson City, where his son’s girlfriend, Victoria Miller, works. There, he found his son, Billy Santarelli Jr., and Miller, sitting on the curb. He started an argument with them then drew his gun and pointed it at them, police said. “Don’t move or I’ll shoot you,” Santarelli told his son, according to police. Santarelli Jr. and Miller retreated into the restaurant and called 911. The elder Santarelli fled and was found later by Archbald police. Santarelli explained to police that he followed Carly Clifford because he thought she was Miller, whom he dislikes. Santarelli is in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail between the two cases. Preliminary hearings are scheduled June 3.
