Angels, 4 Players Sign Contracts

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) _ Infielder Adam Kennedy and pitchers Brian Cooper, Scott Schoeneweis, and Jarrod Washburn agreed Thursday to one-year contracts with the Anaheim Angels.

Kennedy, 25, was acquired along with pitcher Kent Bottenfield from St. Louis last March for Jim Edmonds to the Cardinals. Kennedy had a .266 batting average, nine home runs, 72 RBIs and 22 steals in 156 games as a rookie last year.

Cooper, a 26-year-old right-hander, was 4-8 with a 5.90 ERA in 57 appearances for Anaheim.

The left-handed Schoeneweis, 27, was 7-10 with a 5.45 ERA in 27 starts. His 170 innings were the Angels’ most.

Washburn, a 26-year-old left-hander, was 7-2 with a 3.74 ERA in 14 starts for Anaheim.
