Teacher’s aide charged with throwing Rubik’s Cube on trial

August 17, 2016

LOWELL, Mass. (AP) — A teaching assistant and basketball coach at a Massachusetts middle school charged with throwing a Rubik’s Cube at a student is heading to trial.

Matthew Fraser’s trial on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon is scheduled for Wednesday in Lowell District Court.

Prosecutors allege the paraprofessional at Lowell’s Sullivan Middle School berated a student and threw the Rubik’s Cube at him on Jan. 27 because he blamed the teen for losing a basketball game. The student was not hurt. The Rubik’s Cube grazed the shoulder of another teacher who did not press charges.

Fraser’s lawyer tells The Sun (http://bit.ly/2bAteUh ) that “at no time” did his client throw the puzzle, and wants to clear his name so he can return to work.

Fraser is on paid administrative leave.
