CHILD INJURED-ZOO _ Officials at a Florida zoo where a toddler stumbled into a rhinoceros exhibit say the welfare of the animals was never compromised and the rhinos won’t be punished in any way.
TRIPLE HOMICIDE-FLORIDA _ Police conducting a welfare check in a retirement community found three human bodies in an “advanced state of decomposition,” along with three dead dogs.
WHEELCHAIR-POOL DEATH _ Officials in Florida say a 68-year-old man drowned on New Year’s Eve when his wheelchair fell into a backyard swimming pool.
ATV FATALITY _ Officials say an all-terrain vehicle crashed onto its side in a water-filled ditch, trapping a 22-year-old Florida man underneath. Polk County Sheriff’s spokesman Scott Wilder said in a news release that Matthew Ryan McGrath of Boca Raton was last seen riding the ATV around 3 a.m. on New Year’s Day. An off-duty Frostproof firefighter found the crash site later that afternoon.
BRIGHTLINE TRAIN-DEATH _ Authorities say a high-speed train struck a pedestrian along the railroad tracks and threw him into a canal. The incident happened on New Year’s Day in Fort Lauderdale.
