Judith Ann Braun
Judith Ann Braun, formerly of Beatrice, passed away peacefully on Jan. 16, 2019 at Meadowlark Adult Care Home in Wichita, Kan., surrounded by family. Judie was born on June 6, 1955 to Walt and Louise Braun in Beatrice, Nebraska, where she lived most of her life. She graduated from Beatrice High School in 1973 and earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. She later returned to UNL to earn her Master’s Degree. She was a member of Mensa. Her first full time job was as a residence director at Johnson Hall at Nebraska Weslyan University. However most of her career was devoted to the Beatrice State Developmental Center where she held various positions for over 30 years. Judie was committed to the wellbeing of residents and staff alike, and served as a Steward for the Nebraska Association for Public Employees. Judie also worked for many years as a part-time dispatcher for the Beatrice Police Department and sometimes filled in for the Gage County Sheriff’s Department as well. Judie enjoyed books, movies, and music, but her greatest passion was photography. She loved photographing people, especially her seven nieces and nephews and later seven great-nieces. Her family enjoyed playing many games with her, like Trivial Pursuit, Guesstures, and Catch Phrase, during which her brothers-in-law would tease her mercilessly for her expressive gestures and her use of words that none of the rest of us knew. Her boisterous laughter was contagious.
She was preceded in death by her father Walter Braun and her sister Kathy (Braun) Bartek. Survivors include her mother Louise (Woltemath) Braun; sister Shauna (Braun) Spencer and husband Steve, all of Wichita, Kan.; former brother-in-law Tom Bartek and his wife Lisa of Falls City; seven nieces and nephews; seven great-nieces; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
