Grace Christian tops Greater Beckley Christian

BECKLEY - Hazley Matthews flirted with a triple-double game for Grace Christian with 16 points, nine assists and nine steals Friday in an 80-36 girls basketball victory at Greater Beckley Christian.

Samantha Wells tossed in 19 points and Emily Hutchinson scored 17 for the Soldiers (5-3). Grace Mitchell scored 30 for Greater Beckley.

The Soldiers play again Saturday, a 2:30 p.m. game at Fairview in the Ashland suburb of Westwood, Kentucky.

SOUTH POINT 49, FAIRLAND 35: The Pointers jumped to a 34-7 halftime lead and ended the Dragons’ Ohio Valley Conference winning streak at 44 games. Fairland outscored South Point 17-2 in the third quarter, but couldn’t catch up. Chance Gunther scored 19 points and Austin Webb 12 for the Pointers. Aiden Porter led the Dragons with 13 points. Jacob Polcyn scored 11.

PAINTSVILLE 73, JOHNSON CENTRAL 54: Seth Williams fired in 27 points with five 3-point field goals in Paintsville’s victory. Nick Keeton scored 14 and snagged 10 rebounds for the Tigers (9-2).

Cory VanHoose led the Golden Eagles (10-2) with 22 points. Jacob Rice added 14 and grabbed 10 rebounds.

IRONTON ST. JOE 62, ROSE HILL CHRISTIAN 52: J.C. Damron scored 25 and the Flyers (7-2) defeated the Royals (2-14) in Ashland. Ryan Payne scored 15 and Isaac Whaley 10. Kenny Wilburn paced Rose Hill Christian with 15 points, followed by Stephan Barker with 14 and Trey Phelps with 10.

SOUTH GALLIA 55, WAHAMA 50: The Rebels (4-9 overall, 2-4 Tri-Valley Conference) rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit to defeat the White Falcons (4-3, 4-3) in Mercerville, Ohio. Jessie Rutt led South Gallia with 17 points. Amaya Howell and Kiley Stapleton scored 12 each. Emma Gibbs scored 14 and grabbed 13 rebounds for Wahama. Hannah Rose scored 13 and Harley Roush 11.

PORTSMOUTH CLAY 56, GREEN 44: Cameron Delotell scored 20 and Jensen Warnock 16 as the Panthers (9-3 overall, 7-1 Southern Ohio Conference) beat the Bobcats (4-7, 3-5) in Portsmouth, Ohio. Kasey Kimbler paced Green with 16 points.

NEW BOSTON 74, SYMMES VALLEY 59: Twins Lexus and Sammy Oiler each scored 22 as the Tigers (3-7 overall, 2-5 SOC) triumphed over the Vikings in Willow Wood, Ohio.
