LIVERPOOL, England (AP) _ The sixth of Britain's first set of septuplets died today after a 12-day fight for life, the Mersey Regional Health Authority said.

Laura was the second of the seven babies born to 27-year-old Susan Halton and the second-biggest at birth, weighing 1 pound 10 ounces.

The surviving septuplet, named Kane, weighs 1 pound 8 ounces and is on a respirator in the hospital's neo-natal intensive care unit.

Laura's death came the day after her mother was discharged from Liverpool's Maternity Hospital. She had her husband Neil spent several hours visiting the surviving babies before going home.

Five babies died within five days of the Aug. 15 birth.

Mrs. Halton had taken fertility drugs after she and her husband spent seven years trying to start a family.

The babies were born 15 weeks prematurely and delivered by Caesarean section.
