Woutersz appointed new manager of Sri Lanka cricket team

April 10, 2015

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — Sri Lanka’s cricket officials on Friday named former first-class player and broadcaster Jeryl Woutersz as the new manager of the national team— the latest in a series of changes made in recent weeks.

Woutersz, who has played for Burgher Recreation Club in the local premier tournament, will be in charge of the team for the upcoming home series against Pakistan and India, Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement.

A number of changes have been made in Sri Lanka cricket recently with the new government appointing an interim committee to run the sport as it investigates allegations of corruption and fraud by the previous administration.

Sports Minister Navin Dissanayake earlier this month appointed a nine-member interim committee headed by former test opener Sidath Wettimuny, which appointed a new four-member selection committee headed by former fast bowler Kapila Wijegunawardene and also including former internationals Amal Silva, Brendon Kuruppu and Hemantha Wickramaratne.
