Embrace your inner Gilmore Girl at Akron festival

AKRON, Ohio -- “Gilmore Girls” is coming to Akron.

For one afternoon in November, the Downtown Akron Partnership is transforming Lock 3 into the charming town Stars Hollow -- with Gilmore trivia, a town troubadour and Luke’s Diner.

All to celebrate the snappy witticisms and feminist point of view of the mom-and-daughter drama, which debuted in 2000 and found a new generation of audience on Netflix.

I’ve been a Gilmore fan since the beginning. Because if there ever were a TV character who loved school and food as much as me, it was Rory. She fast-talked, she barely dated, she studied like crazy. She wanted to be a newspaper reporter!

I adored her prep-school rivalries and her smart banter with her 16-years-her-senior mother, Lorelai. I loved Lorelai’s struggle to reconcile her grownup life with her WASPy family.

The Akron Gilmore Girls Day will screen three episodes from the series. It will also have voting station for your favorite of Rory’s boyfriends: Dean, Jess or Logan.

(Sorry, I know this is unpopular, but I’m totally Team Logan. Yes, he was entitled. But that was part of his charm! And he called her Ace!)

Boyfriends weren’t the point on Gilmore, though. It’s all about the Girls.

When: 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18

Where: Lock 3, 200 S Main Street, Akron, Ohio 44308
