High schoolers put on fashion show to raise funds for prom dresses
Twenty-four high school girls from Somerset County schools danced together and modeled dresses on Sunday for the prom dress sharing program Dressed.
Dressed coordinator Rebecca Miller said that she started the program two years ago when she took her daughter shopping for prom dresses.
She said the response has been overwhelming.
Dressed takes used prom dresses and resells them cheaply or rents them for free. A student can get a dress for any high school dance for $20, and, if she returns the dress, she will get her money back.
Miller said any girl should be able to attend her high school dance whether or not she can afford a dress.
“Every girl should have an equal chance to be a part of their school life,” she said.
The fashion show fundraiser on Sunday included many dresses and desserts and was put on by many student volunteers.
Dressed has about 1,300 dresses now and will accept more dresses or monetary donations by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org or the organization’s Instagram or Facebook.
