Rash of car thefts in Greenwich continues

November 29, 2018

GREENWICH — A rash of vehicle theft is continuting, with high-end cars being stolen in three separate neighborhoods this week.

Authorities said all the stolen cars were unclocked and had keys or starting mechanisms inside them when they were taken. None had been recoverd by week’s end.

The stolen cars were:

*A 2016 Chevy Equinox, reported missing from Lancer Road in Mianus on Monday.

*A 2018 Porsche Macan GTS, reported missing from Tod’s Driftway on Tuesday.

*A 2017 Land Rover Discovery, reported missing from Lake Avenue in the midcountry on Wednesday.

All the cars were taken from residences. In addition to those car thefts, police also responded to two larcenies from vehicles on a street in the Mianus neighborhood, near Lancer Drive where a car was stolen. A diaper bag was taken from one car on Rainbow Drive, and a pair of sunglasses from another.

Police have been urging the public to keep vehicles locked at all times, and never to leave car keys or other valuables inside them.

Authorities have predicted that 2018 is likely to be a record-setting year for property crimes that involve cars, given the number of car thefts and larcenies officer have already responded to this year.

A rash of larcenies from vehicles has been ongoing in other towns besides Greenwich, in communities across southern Connecticut.
