Wind energy project proposed for Bridgeport harbor
Offshore wind development company Vineyard Wind LLC has its sights set on Bridgeport for its new multi-million-dollar project.
The Massachusetts-based company submitted a proposal to state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, or DEEP, to develop a new wind-energy project in Connecticut, expressing interest in the Park City. Vineyard Wind is currently constructing its first project in the United States off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard, and is looking to do the same on Bridgeport’s Harbor.
“We are excited at the idea of creating more than 1,000 jobs and bringing billions in economic benefits to the state with this proposal, and we are equally thrilled to be working with our partners in Bridgeport - McAllister Towing, which operates the Port Jefferson-Bridgeport Ferry, and Bridgeport and Port Jefferson Steamboat Company to transform the port into a world-class shipping operation,” said Erich Stephens, Chief Development Officer for Vineyard Wind in a press release.
