Truck driver turns onto Ohio bike path, gets stuck under bridge

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A tractor-trailer driver’s vehicle got wedged under a bridge after he accidentally turned onto a bike path while looking for a highway onramp, reports say.

The incident closed down the bike path Thursday morning near the Ohio State University campus, according to WCMH Channel 4.

Police tell ABC 6 the driver became confused after leaving Ohio 315 and was trying to get back on the highway when he turned onto the path.

The trailer became wedged under a bridge for Ohio 670. No one was injured.

“It’s an honest mistake, ” Sgt. Isaac Bridges tells ABC 6. “The driver thought this was a continuous ramp, didn’t pay attention to the signs and we are where we are.”

Police say the unidentified driver, who is not from Columbus, has been cited for reckless operation and traffic control device.‬

The bike path was reopened Thursday afternoon.
