Predators Sign Top Pick Finley
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ The Nashville Predators signed 18-year-old goaltender Brian Finley, the sixth overall pick in last year’s NHL draft, to a three-year contract Wednesday.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Predators already have goalies Mike Dunham and Tomas Vokoun, but Dunham was limited to 44 games last season by a series of groin injuries.
``When you draft a goaltender, it’s somewhat of a gamble,″ said Nashville general manager David Poile. ``When you use your first pick, you better be sure of what you have.″
With Dunham holding out most of the preseason for a new contract, Finley played four exhibition games and lead Nashville with a 1.62 goals against average and a .929 save percentage.
Finley will remain in Nashville through the Predators first two home games, but will likely spend most of the season with the Ontario Hockey League’s Barrie Colts, where he was 36-10-4 last season.
