QUARTERBACKS

JA’QUAN ALBRIGHT, Winston-Salem Mt. Tabor, QB, Sr., 5-10, 170 _ Had 1,236 yards passing and 1,963 yards rushing in addition to 610 yards returning kicks while helping team reach 3-AA semifinals.

BRANDON BEACH, Williamston Riverside, QB, Sr., 6-3, 225 _ Threw for 1,911 yards and 24 touchdowns. Rushed for 568 yards and 11 TDs. All-conference selection. Committed to Gardner-Webb.

ISAIAH BESS, Shelby, QB, Jr. _ Passed for 4,004 yards and 41 touchdowns. MVP of the 2-AA title game. Conference offensive player of the year.

JAYDEN BIRCHFIELD, Morganton Freedom, QB, Jr., 6-2, 205 _ Completed 174 of 279 passes for 2,780 yards and 27 touchdowns with seven interceptions. Also ran 90 times for 422 yards and 15 touchdowns. All-county first-team pick. Conference offensive player of the year and all-conference pick. Two-time county player of the week by the Morganton News Herald. Became county’s career passing leader with 6,023 yards and all-time leader in total offense with 6,795 yards. He also set a single-season county record with 42 total touchdowns. Set a single-game county record with seven touchdowns (four passing, three rushing) against West Caldwell. Led county in passing yards, passing touchdowns, completions, completion percentage (.624) and rushing scores.

KENNIQUE BOONER-STEWARD, Charlotte Hough, QB, Sr., 6-3, 215 _ Passed for 2,528 yards with 30 touchdowns and eight interceptions with a QBR of 118. Completed 63 percent of his passes. Ran for 599 yards on 124 carries with eight rushing scores. All-time school leader in TD throws (53) and career leader in QB rushing with 1,177 yards in two years. Signed with Temple.

DONOVAN BREWINGTON, Hope Mills South View, QB, Sr. _ Threw for a county-record 3,021 yards with 33 touchdowns. Also rushed for six TDs and caught a touchdown pass. Had 3,153 total yards. Shrine Bowl pick. Conference offensive player of the year. Leading passer in school and county history. Was county’s first 3,000-yard passer. Three-time Fayetteville Observer player of the week.

NICK FREY, Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons, QB, Sr., 6-3, 182 _ Completed 206 of 332 passes for 3,084 yards and 35 touchdowns. Committed to Colgate.

NICK HAMILTON, Greenville Conley, QB, Jr., 6-1, 165 _ Passed for 2,967 yards with 38 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Completed 54.7 percent of his throws. Also rushed 67 times for 113 yards and three TDs.

CALEB HOOD, Richmond County, QB, So., 6-0, 190 _ Completed 129 of 222 passes for 1,956 yards with 21 touchdowns and three interceptions. Also ran for 594 yards (subtracting sacks) for six scores. Two-time all-conference pick.

SAM HOWELL, Indian Trail Sun Valley, QB, Sr., 6-2, 220 _ See player of the year nominations.

LUKE HUDLER, Ashe County, QB, Sr., 6-0, 165 _ Threw for 3,440 yards on 205-of-310 passing. Threw 42 touchdown passes with 10 interceptions. Conference player of year.

GRANT CHARLES JARMAN, Greenville Rose, QB, 6-4, 180 _ Threw for 2,174 yards and 24 touchdowns with six interceptions. Averaged 205 yards passing. Will be a preferred walk-on at East Carolina.

DRAKE MAYE, Charlotte Myers Park, QB, Sr., 6-3, 190 _ Had a 134.2 QB rating, the state’s second-highest total among QBs with at least 100 throws. Has offers from Ohio State, Michigan, South Carolina, West Virginia, Tennessee, N.C. State, UNC and Wake Forest.

DARIUS OCEAN, Clayton Cleveland, QB, Jr., 6-0, 187 _ Completed 238 of 358 passes for 3,725 yards and 13 TDs.

AARON SCOTT, North Mecklenburg, QB, Sr., 6-1, 170 _ Threw for 2,656 yards and 28 touchdowns. Ran for 679 yards and five scores. Has offers from Stetson, Eastern Kentucky, Marshall and Holy Cross.

TREY SHEPHERD, Monroe, QB/DB, Sr., 6-3, 180 _ Threw for 2,195 yards and 24 touchdowns with 16 interceptions. Added 460 yards rushing with seven scores. All-conference pick.

GARRETT SHRADER, Charlotte Christian, QB, Sr., 6-4, 200 _ Completed 127 of 195 passes for 1,952 yards and 22 touchdowns. Ran 117 times for 808 yards and 17 touchdowns. Two-time all-conference. NCISAA all-state player of the year.

NAVY SHULER, Arden Christ School, QB _ Completed 254 of 362 passes (70 percent) for 4,112 yards and 44 touchdowns. Averaged 342.7 yards per game. NCISAA all-state pick.

NIGEL SUMMERVILLE, Charlotte Vance, QB, Sr., 6-1, 205 _ Threw for 2,703 yards and 27 touchdowns. Also ran for three scores. Set school record with 25 wins in two seasons. Committed to Lehigh.

KAYLON WADE, Kings Mountain, QB, Sr., 6-0, 168 _ Completed 160 of 282 passes for 3,180 yards and 42 touchdowns. Ran 172 times for 848 yards and 18 touchdowns, helping Kings Mountain reach the 3-A semifinals.

RUNNING BACKS

RYLEE ANDERSON, Robbinsville, RB, Jr. _ Area’s top rusher, finishing with 1,965 yards and 32 touchdowns. Helped team reach 1-A semifinals while averaging 7.4 yards per carry.

TYRESE BLAKE, Northwest Cabarrus, RB, Jr. _ Ran for 2,332 yards and a league-best 33 touchdowns, making him the runaway choice as the league’s top offensive player. Averaged 9.1 yards per carry. Had 36 total touchdowns and more than 2,500 yards for 13-1 team.

JAYDEN BLANTON, Cherryville, RB, Jr., 6-0, 185 _ Ran for a school-record 1,400 yards and 23 touchdowns on 220 carries.

A.J. BOULWARE, Southern Lee, RB, Jr., 5-10, 170 _ Rushed for 2,163 yards and 34 touchdowns.

ELIJAH BURRIS, Mt Holly Mountain Island Charter, RB _ Ran 194 times for 2,832 yards and 34 touchdowns. Also had 173 yards receiving with two TD catches. Conference player of the year. Broke county’s single-season rushing record and led the state in rushing yardage. Committed to UNC.

TRAVION CANADA, Reidsville, RB/LB/ATH, Sr., 5-9, 180 _ A two-way force on the field who helped team win 2-A championship while being named HSXtra.com player of the year. Ran 165 times for 1,574 yards (9.4 average) and 21 touchdowns. Had 29 catches for 474 yards and six touchdowns. At linebacker, finished with 46 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, two sacks and an interception. One of the sacks came late in the state title game to force a punt, then he broke multiple tackles for a 26-yard gain to set up a field goal in the 31-28 comeback win against Elizabeth City Northeastern. Part of a senior class that had lost once in three seasons, with the only defeat coming in overtime to Wallace-Rose Hill in the 2017 state final. Conference offensive player of the year and two-time all-conference pick.

JAYLEN COLEMAN, Indian Trail Porter Ridge, RB, Sr., 6-2, 195 _ Ran 211 times for 1,953 yards and 22 touchdowns. Averaged 9.3 yards per rush and 156.5 yards per game. Conference offensive player of the year. Two-time all-conference pick. Bronko Nagurski Leadership Award Winner. Committed to Duke.

QUINTON COOLEY, Southern Nash, RB, Jr.., 5-8, 186 _ Ran 149 times for 1,756 yards and 30 touchdowns. Averaged 11.8 yards per carry. Had three receiving touchdowns. Playing with a dislocated shoulder, ran for a school-record 413 yards in the 57-56 second-round playoff loss to Eastern Alamance. Was Wilson Times’ Ironman of the Year. Repeated as all-area and all-conference pick.

JAHEIM COVINGTON, Richmond County, RB, Jr., 5-10, 190 _ Ran 157 times for 1,174 yards. Scored 21 touchdowns. Also had a TD catch and a TD throw. All-conference pick.

CLAYTON CRIBB, North Lincoln, RB, Sr. _ Ran 232 times for 1,357 yards and 13 touchdowns. Also had 43 tackles, one tackle for loss, one fumble recovery and two forced fumbles.

LANDON HONEYCUTT, Mt. Pleasant, RB/LB, Sr., 6-2, 220 _ Ran 163 times for 1,293 yards and 18 touchdowns. Also had 94 tackles, two fumble recoveries, four forced fumbles and nine tackles for loss. Conference defensive player of the year.

NASEEM JONES, Belmont South Point, RB, Jr., 6-0, 185 _ Ran for 1,589 yards and 24 touchdowns. All-conference pick.

NOAH LAVALLE, Topsail, RB, Jr., 6-0, 190 _ Ran for 1,646 yards and 19 touchdowns in 12 games.

ZONOVAN KNIGHT, Southern Nash, RB, Sr., 6-0, 188 _ See player of the year nominations.

AHMANI MARSHALL, East Forsyth, RB, Jr., 6-1, 205 _ Had 1,134 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns. Conference offensive player of the year for team that won 4-A title.

DEMETRIUS MAUNEY, East Rutherford, RB/OLB, Sr., 6-0, 190 _ Ran 134 times for 1,319 yards and 16 touchdowns. Had one interception return for a score. Returned a kickoff for a TD. Had 1,527 all-purpose yards. At linebacker, had 76 tackles, two sacks, 11 tackles for loss and the INT return. Shrine Bowl pick. Has 14 college offers.

KENDRICK MCLAURIN, Marshville Forest Hills, RB, Sr., 6-0, 185 _ Ran 180 times for 1,684 yards and 19 touchdowns. Played in nine games due to injury, but played last six games on torn meniscus and a fractured tibia. Had 14 receptions for 183 yards. Two-way player before injury who had 23 tackles and four breakups on defense. Averaged 224 yards rushing per game in league play and ran for 12 touchdowns. Conference offensive player of the year. Has an offer from NAIA St. Andrews along with interest from Winston-Salem State and UNC Pembroke.

SLADE MCTAGGART, Murphy, RB/LB, Sr. _ Ran 121 times for 1,323 yards and 23 touchdowns. Averaged 10.9 yards per carry for the 1-A champions. At linebacker, had 55 tackles, six tackles for loss and three sacks.

HAMILTON MOORE, Raleigh Enloe, RB, Sr., 6-1, 210 _ Rushed for 2,058 yards and 22 touchdowns on 309 carries. Conference player of the year. Signed with Yale.

JOSH MOORE, East Burke, RB, Jr., 5-9, 164 _ Ran 267 times for 1,319 yards and 11 touchdowns. Had 15 tackles and an interception with a pass breakup on defense. Led county in rushing yards and attempts. Had a 200-yard game in season finale. Led team in rushing scores and accounted for more than half of the team’s offensive touchdowns overall.

JOSEPH MORRIS, Charlotte Vance, RB, So., 5-10, 180 _ Ran 171 times for 1,341 yards and 13 touchdowns. Major Division I recruit.

EVAN PRYOR, Charlotte Hough, RB, So., 5-10, 180 _ Led team with 912 yards rushing with 6.3-yard average. Ran for 10 touchdowns. Also had 24 catches for 277 yards and four scores. Led team in total touchdowns with 1,300 all-purpose yards. Has 15 power-conference offers.

KUJUAN PRYOR, Lawndale Burns, RB, Jr., 5-7, 160 _ Ran 204 times for 2,001 yards and 27 touchdowns. Also had seven catches for 161 yards and seven scores. At safety, had 38 tackles, one sack and three interceptions. Broke school’s single-game rushing records with 280 yards. Set school’s single-season rushing record. All-conference pick at RB. Drawing Division I interest.

LUKAS SCOTT, West Stanly, RB/MLB, Sr., 6-1, 186 _ Ran 183 times for 1,132 yards, averaging 6.2 yards per carry. Had more than 100 yards receiving and threw a TD pass. Scored a total of 15 touchdowns. On defense, had 85 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, two sacks and an interception return for a touchdown. Played every snap on offense and defense during league play.

COREY SIEMER, Newton Foard, RB, Jr., 6-1, 205 _ Ran 228 times for 2,501 yards and 28 touchdowns. Averaged 11 yards per carry and 208 yards per game.

MITJONTA STANLEY, Edenton Holmes, RB, Jr., 5-11, 170 _ Rushed for school-record 2,947 yards and 45 touchdowns. Conference offensive player of the year.

MALCOLM WILSON, North Rowan, RB, Jr., 5-8, 185 _ Ran 201 times for 1,820 yards, averaging 9.1 yards per carry. Also had 314 receiving yards. Scored 25 touchdowns. County offensive player of the year. All-conference pick.

MCKINLEY WITHERSPOON, Lenoir Hibriten, RB, Sr., 5-10, 186 _ Ran 121 times for 2,054 yards (16.7 per carry) with 41 touchdowns. Three-year starter who set school’s career records for rushing yards (5,166) and touchdowns (102). Two-time conference offensive player of the year. Committed to Elon.

JAMAL WORTHY, Matthews Butler, RB, Jr., 6-1, 215 _ Ran 129 times for 915 yards and 15 touchdowns. Had 18 catches for 236 yards and two scores. All-conference pick.
