DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) _ Col. Shahriar Rashid Khan, an architect of the 1975 coup that toppled the Soviet-leaning government of the late President Sheikh Muhibur Rahman, has been released after nearly a year in detention, opposition sources say.
The colonel, who is retired from the military and leads the Progressive Democratic Party, was detained in September last year under the special powers act. Party sources said he was freed on Saturday.
