WAYNE - Both the Wayne Middle School boys and girls basketball teams took wins against Buffalo Middle School in heated matches Monday evening with the boys winning 52-18 and the girls 40-26.

The Wayne Boys came out strong with a quick lead over Buffalo, with Issac Meddings (0) scoring four three-point shots in the first quarter to help put the team ahead.

Meddings finished off the game with 22 points, leading the Pioneers to the easy win.

Dillon May (22) earned 7 points in the win while Zane Adkins (23) sunk two threes for a total of 6 points.

“It was a good showing for our guys,” Coach Sean Meddings said.

The girls’ victory wasn’t quite as easy, with the Lady Pioneers battling to keep the lead in the second half, momentum finally allowed the team to pull ahead in the second quarter.

Brooke Adkins (20) really showed out, scoring 13 points to combine for 19 in the quarter, bringing the Lady Pioneers to a 23 point total.

Adkins led the team with an easy 25 points, while her sister Addie Adkins finished off the game with 8 points to help polish off the win 40-26 win.

“The girls fought hard to take the win,” coach Seth Merritt said. “Buffalo played aggressively, but we were able to overtake them.”
