Afghan police say bomber killed in failed attack
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Afghan police say security guards killed a suicide bomber in Kabul as he tried to attack the home of a tribal elder opposed to the Taliban.
Gen. Gul Agha Hashimi, the head of the Kabul Criminal Investigation Department, said the bomber was shot Tuesday as he tried to enter the elder’s home in western Kabul.
He says the house belonged to Mohammad Alam, from northern Baghlan province.
Hashimi says the bomb did not detonate and no one was wounded when security guards opened fire on the attacker, who was on foot.
No one claimed responsibility for the botched attack, but the Taliban have in the past targeted prominent Afghans who are opposed to the insurgency.
