Scranton Men Arrested After Police Investigate Home Invasion

Two Scranton men rushed into an unlocked apartment today, brandishing a gun and ordered the residents to hand over money or “bodies are going to start falling,” according to Scranton police.

Investigators said Kalil Brown, 25, 306 Railroad Ave., and Akio Ali, 21, 1424 Fordham Court, took $85 and fled from rear 322 Phelps St. in Scranton.

After the altercation, a neighbor called police and the Scranton Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit were dispatched at 12:20 p.m. Officers Jason Hyler and Kyle Gilmartin saw the men running down East Gibson Street with their hands on their waistbands.

When Hyler caught up with Brown, he reached for what appeared to be a gun on his waistband, police said. Brown dropped what turned out to be a BB gun and police took him into custody in the 300 block of East Gibson Street.

Gilmartin caught up with Ali in the 700 block of Capouse Avenue around 12:23 p.m.

The pair face charges of felony robbery, conspiracy to committee felony robbery, felony burglary and related counts, Hyler said.

Ali also faces charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Police charged Brown with possessing instruments of crime for brandishing the BB gun.

Bail and preliminary hearing information was not immediately available.
