SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) _ Colin Bryant scored 24 points and Damien Levesque had 18 points and a career-high 15 rebounds Saturday as Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo opened its season with a 94-51 victory over the College of Notre Dame.
The win marked a successful debut for new Cal Poly coach Jeff Schneider while Notre Dame, a member of NCAA Division II, fell to 2-1.
The Mustangs scored the game’s first nine points in leading all the way. It was 45-28 at halftime and Cal Poly went on a 34-2 run to make it 88-39 with 4:08 remaining.
The 43-point margin of victory was Cal Poly’s largest since a 106-57 triumph over Colorado Mines in the 1989-90 season.
David Sternlight added 13 points for Cal Poly. Shanta Cotright had 12 points and seven assists and Steve Fleming came off the bench to score 10 points for the Mustangs, who had a 54-33 rebounding advantage.
Rodney Wheeler led Notre Dame with 19 points and six rebounds. Nick Belasso had 15 points and seven rebounds for the Argonauts, who hurt themselves by committing 31 turnovers to just 17 for the Mustangs.
