Niagara Cave: A backyard ‘bucket list’ destination
HARMONY — Niagara Cave was recently voted Minnesota’s top “bucket list” road trip destination by USA Today.
Niagara Cave owner Mark Bishop said he was excited, but not surprised, to hear about the recognition.
“Each cave is unique around the world,” Bishop said, “but there are a lot of special features at Niagara Cave that make it stand out.”
Those unique features that helped the southern Minnesota cave snag the top spot include its 60-foot waterfall, underground river and exposed fossils, which date back 450 million years.
In addition to the natural attractions, Niagara also boasts an 18-hole mini golf course, a gemstone panning attraction and a subterranean wedding chapel.
Bishop said the cave — which was previously voted the second-favorite cave nationwide by USA Today — offers an opportunity to experience a typically hidden part of the world.
“It’s a safe, enjoyable and educational way to see what’s underground,” he said. “Niagara Cave offers an opportunity to see the wonders of nature that you don’t see walking on the street or in a park. It’s a totally different experience.”
