Columnist Art Buchwald Hospitalized
WASHINGTON (AP) _ Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper columnist Art Buchwald was in serious but stable condition Wednesday in the intensive care unit of Georgetown University Medical Center following a stroke.
Buchwald, 74, was hospitalized June 16, and has been at the medical center since then, said hospital spokeswoman Angie Covarrubias. She said she was not aware if doctors had given a prognosis.
A writer of political and social satire, Buchwald’s syndicated column appears in more than 500 newspapers. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for commentary in 1982. For many years, he was a columnist for the Herald-Tribune in Paris.
He has published his memoirs, ``I’ll Always Have Paris″ and ``Leaving Home.″ His next book, ``Stella in Heaven: Almost a Novel,″ is due out in August.
