House fire displaces Limestone couple
LIMESTONE — A Monday afternoon fire has temporarily displaced a couple from their home in the 4900 block of West Doris Drive.
Smoke detectors alerted a home monitoring agency about smoke inside the home. The agency contacted police, who saw smoke coming from the home and contacted firefighters. The couple was not home during the fire.
Firefighters contained the fire to the home’s kitchen and living room. However, smoke damaged occurred throughout the home.
Deputy Fire Chief Rick Bocek, of the Limestone Fire Protection District, said the cause of the fire is undetermined, though it appears to have originated from a kitchen appliance.
The family has fire insurance and will stay with family or friends until their home is repaired.
Firefighters from Limestone, Bourbonnais and Kankakee responded to the blaze so they could rotate because of high temperatures.
No injuries were reported.
