‘Totally Wired’ Blitzer’s Fumble Draws Presidential Laugh
WASHINGTON (AP) _ For television reporter Wolf Blitzer, the problems began when President Clinton called on him at a joint news conference with German Chancellor Helmut Kohl.
As Blitzer began to stand to ask his question, a heavy piece of communications equipment slipped from his belt. He tried to grab it but his notebook and microphone got in the way. He popped his pen in his mouth to free up a hand.
``The normally suave, unflappable Wolf Blitzer _ suffering technology breakdown,″ Clinton observed with a laugh.
``I’m totally wired here,″ the CNN correspondent said. He recovered in a moment and addressed a question to Kohl.
