Heat caution issued Monday through Wednesday
LAS VEGAS — The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for surrounding areas of the desert Southwest reaching north and east past the Grand Canyon, south to 29 Palms and west to Death Valley.
Not yet escalated to a warning, the watch so far continues from Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 6 through 8.
Local areas along the Colorado River are expected to reach the upper one-teens while Death Valley soars to the mid one-twenties and Colorado City, on the Grand Canyon’s north side, is expected to reach 100 to 105.
An excessive heat watch means a prolonged period of hot temperatures is expected, creating a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Readers are cautioned to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioned rooms and check up on neighbors and relatives.
Never leave people or pets unattended in a vehicle.
