NSDAR Westmoreland chapter participates in veteran picnic
HUNTINGTON — Two members of the Westmoreland Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution attended a picnic at Harris Riverfront Park hosted to honor veterans.
June Ashworth and Vanessa Ramey and former member of Westmoreland chapter Marsha Napier volunteered their time to help in a myriad of ways, such as checking identification of veterans, helping them carry their food to their tables and more.
The picnic, which was organized by the West Virginia Marine Corps Coordinating Council and Vietnam Veterans of America, Tri-State Chapter 949, has been held for the last seven years.
This year was the first time that the Westmoreland Chapter has helped in the festivities.
“This certainly is not all that the Westmoreland Chapter does for our veterans. We are so thankful for their service to our country and we are more than happy to participate in any event which honors and shows our appreciation to them,” Ashworth said.
Ramey added that she was honored to serve and was looking forward to helping in such events in the future. She also recognizes the residents at the Barboursville Veterans Home by sending each of them a birthday card during their birthday months.
The NSDAR chapter has two members, Kathleen Bledsoe and Linda Parsons, who serve on the VA Volunteer Service Committee at the Huntington VA Medical Center to find out what is happening at the center and search for ways to assist area veterans in any way they can.
“Members of the Westmoreland Chapter NSDAR are constantly finding ways to honor our true American Heroes our Veterans,” Linda Parsons said.
