Two Jordanian Warplanes Enter Israeli Air Space, Israel Says

October 29, 1985

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) _ Two Jordanian warplanes entered Israeli air space and flew over the Sea of Galilee on Tuesday, Israeli military sources said.

The pilots apparently crossed the border ″by mistake″ and turned back east toward Jordan when they realized their error, said the sources, who spoke on condition they were not identified.

They said that after the Jordanian planes had already left Israeli air space, an anti-aircraft missile was fired at them from Syrian territory but missed the aircraft.

The sources said they could not identify the type of planes were involved in the incident, and that they could not comment on an Israel radio report that quoted United Nations sources as saying the planes had overflown Israel twice.
