Say Florida Sandy and Cross Morant Win New York Stallion Stakes
NEW YORK (AP) _ Favorites won both divisions of Aqueduct’s $100,000 New York Stallion Stakes on Sunday.
Say Florida Sandy won the first division, coming from just off pace to scored a 3 3/4-length win. Cross Morant was second in the five-horse field over 2-year-olds, 5 1/2 lengths ahead of Bahama Boy.
Say Florida Sandy carried high weight of 122 pounds and was ridden by Richard Migliore. With his fourth win in eight starts this year, the winner covered six furlongs in 1:11 on the fast track to earn $60,000 for Sanford Bacon.
Say Florida Sandy paid $3.20, $2.10 and $2.10. Cross Morant paid $2.80 and $2.10 and Bahama Boy paid $2.10 to show.
Iamacarr scored a 2 1/2-length victory in the second division, which was for 2-year-old fillies. Bewitching Eyes was second in the field of nine, four lengths ahead of Dewars Rocks.
Iamacarr, assigned 114 pounds and carrying Mike Smith, won for the second time in career starts, covering six furlongs in 1:12 4-5.
Iamacarr earned $60,000 for Chuckolow Stable and paid $3.70, $2.60 and $2.10. Bewitching Eyes paid $5.00 and $3.10, and Dewars Rocks paid $2.40.
