HOUSTON (AP) _ Frederic Modin scored a power-play goal 34 seconds into overtime, lifting the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 4-3 victory Saturday night over the Washington Capitals.

The Capitals were called for too many men on the ice with 52 seconds left in regulation, setting up Modin’s game-winner.

Andrei Zyuzin had two goals and an assist for Tampa Bay, which improved to 2-0-1 in the preseason. Andrei Nikolishin scored twice for Washington.

Zyuzin gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead at 3:21 of the first period. Washington outshot Tampa Bay the rest of the period and got even on Matt Pettinger’s goal at 15:33.

The Lightning took four straight penalties, and the Capitals converted a 5-on-3 advantage with Nikolishin’s first goal.

Washington was then whistled for four penalties, setting up Zyuzin’s second goal of the night.

Dave Andreychuk put Tampa Bay up 3-2 at 7:37 of the third. After numerous power play opportunities, including a two-man advantage for both teams, Nikolishin forced overtime with his second goal, scored with two minutes remaining.
