Frederick police are investigating a burglary that happened at a gun store on Fifth Street over the weekend.

Sometime late Saturday night into early Sunday, at least one suspect smashed the front window of American Family Insurance, which is the business adjacent to Snoopy’s Guns at 334 Fifth St. in a strip mall, according to Frederick police Sgt. Robert Bedsaul.

The suspect then gained entry to the gun store, though it’s not clear exactly how he or she did so. There are no doors between the two businesses and “no obvious way to get between the two,” Bedsaul said.

Police are not releasing how the suspect may have accessed Snoopy’s Guns from the insurance office. They have not found any damage beyond the smashed window.

Once in the store, the suspect took several handguns and long guns, according to Bedsaul. The exact amount has not yet been determined.

At some point, an alarm was tripped. Police arrived in the area shortly after midnight Sunday.

Police do not know if there was more than one suspect involved in the crime. They are reviewing surveillance footage of the area at this time.
