Premier League clubs to support migrant appeals

September 11, 2015

LONDON (AP) — Premier League clubs will promote a child refugee crisis appeal run by leading charity Save the Children this weekend, while Arsenal will donate one pound ($1.5) from each ticket sold in a response to the migrant crisis from top-flight English teams.

The appeal will be promoted at six games on Saturday, with matches featuring banners of support and messages on big screens encouraging fans to donate.

Justin Forsyth, chief executive of Save the Children, says in a statement Friday that “football has an incredible ability to bring people together”, adding that he was “proud that Arsenal is leading the way in showing that Britain cares.”

The Premier League said it was approached by Save the Children earlier in the week and that clubs agreed on the move Thursday.
