Snowmobiler dies in avalanche near Pinedale
JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — Authorities say a Rock Springs man died after he was buried in an avalanche while snowmobiling near Pinedale.
Sublette County Coroner Curtis Covill identified the man as 31-year-old Dustin LaPant.
The Jackson Hole News & Guide reports the avalanche occurred in the Wyoming Range Saturday. LaPant was about 1,000 feet (305 meters) off the the Horse Creek Trail, a popular route among snowmobilers.
Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center Director Bob Comey says the avalanche carried LaPant about 50 feet (15 meters) and flipped his snowmobile on top of him.
