Terry Leonard Named Johannesburg Bureau Chief
NEW YORK (AP) _ Terry Leonard, a newsman in Nairobi for two years, has been named The Associated Press chief of bureau in Johannesburg.
The appointment was announced Friday by Louis D. Boccardi, president and chief executive officer of the news cooperative.
Leonard, 48, joined the AP in Dallas in 1978. He was promoted to the International Desk in 1984 and transferred from New York to Rome in 1988. He moved to Kenya in 1994.
He succeeds John Daniszewski, who resigned.
A native of Madison, Wis., Leonard worked for the Denison (Texas) Herald before he joined the AP. He graduated from Texas Tech.
