McWhinnie-Armstead Leads Fitchburg State at New England Track Championships

WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Fitchburg State University men’s outdoor track & field team placed 21st overall with a total of 11 points at the Division 3 New England Championships on Saturday, hosted by Williams College.

Sophomore Christian McWhinnie-Armstead led the way for the Falcons, placing second in the high jump with an Open New England qualifying jump of 2.07 meters to earn Division 3 New England Honors.

Junior Zachary Buckland also collected Division 3 New England Honors for the Falcons in the decathlon with a score of 4,952 points, while sophomore Jacob Movsessian finished 10th in the 10,000 meters with a time of 33:03.87.

Junior Wilkerson Pierre turned in a 16th-place effort in the triple jump with a distance of 13.09 meters, while senior Joseph Darrigo placed 10th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:53.82.

The Falcons will next compete at the 2019 Open New England Championships, beginning Friday at 2 p.m.
