LOWELL -- A portion of Wentworth Avenue in Lowell was closed Thursday evening since over a foot of rainwater had pooled in the street and disabled at least one car whose driver tried to plow through it.

Police called in Stuart’s Towing to remove a BMW that was disabled by the high water about 6:30 p.m. There were no reported injuries.

Over a foot of water covered the street as it makes a 90 degree turn about halfway between Rogers and Boyston streets.

City crews put up barrels to keep drivers out of the water until it drained.
